History

Iceman is a group of companies which is actively engaged in a wide range of activities that include refrigeration and allied technologies, cold chains and logistics, eco-friendly paper packaging, maintenance technical solutions, manufacturing and distributing engineering components and sourcing technical products.

In 1989 BEARINGS & SPARES (PVT) LTD.
was incorporated with a modest working capital of Rs.17,000.00 and a workforce of 2. Today, the company can boast of a stock of over Rs.60 million as well as a fully-trained, dedicated workforce of over 20 at 2 branches. Most of the senior staff members have been trained abroad by the principals. The company is undoubtedly the best service provider among distributors of bearings. Currently, Bearings & Spares is the National Distributor for SNR Bearings as well as for TIMKEN Bearings.
   
In 1996

ICEMAN TECHNOLOGIES (PVT) LTD.
was formed to cater to the refrigeration market. The company started with 4 employees and have steadily grown to be the market leader with a workforce of over 350. Almost all the large cold rooms in Sri Lanka have been constructed by Iceman Technologies and the company has produced almost all the locally manufactured cold cars on the roads today.

Iceman Technologies also has a strong presence in the Maldive Islands, having built all the European standard fish factories in the country. The company has also exported cold cars to Bangladesh and India.

Branch and joint venture companies have been established in Australia and in the Fiji Islands. Negotiations are underway to establish a joint venture company in Papua New Guinea as well.
 
In 1998 ICEMAN DISTRIBUTORS (PVT) LTD.
was incorporated at the request of Unilever to distribute Walls Ice Cream in Sri Lanka. This company was responsible for 70% of the total sales. When Walls ceased its operations, Iceman Distributors began handling Elephant House Ice Cream’s modern trade operation in the Western region and the general trade operation in the Northern district. Since the company’s inception, ice cream distribution has grown by 400% and the vehicle fleet has also increased accordingly to cater the demand. Recently, the distribution of Rich Life Products was also entrusted to Iceman Distributors.
 
In 2004

ICEMAN PAPER PRODUCTS (PVT) LTD.
was incorporated as the Group diversified into environment-friendly paper products. Most of the paper canisters used by tea exporters here in Sri Lanka are manufactured by this company, thus becoming an indirect exporter. Iceman Paper Products also produces paper cones for the textile industry and large paper drums for the export of gherkins. The company’s staff members have been trained abroad and new investments made in infrastructure to double the production.
 
In 2009 ICEMAN COLD CHAIN SERVICES
was incorporated to support Iceman Distributors in the manufacturing of Iceman Tube Ice. Currently, Iceman Tube Ice is available in the market under private labels as K Choice and Arpico.True to the Group’s pioneering spirit, flavoured tube ice has also been introduced for the first time to the local market. The company hopes to provide tube ice under private labels for the other supermarket chains as well, thereby becoming the market leader.
 
In 2010 KLN LANKA (PVT) LTD.
was formed as a joint venture between the Iceman Group and the KLN Group, subsequent to the Iceman Group purchasing Dimo’s shares of KLN Dimo. The company manufactures all types of filters for automobiles and locomotives.
 
In 2012 ICEMAN TECHNICAL SOLUTIONS (PVT) LTD.
was formed as a spin-off of Bearings & Spares (Pvt) Ltd. This company is the first to offer total pro-active maintenance to industries and specializes in condition-based monitoring using vibration analysis and thermal imaging.
